And, sorry, UMD owners: this still doesn't help you at all.Įarly PS Vita adopters (the Vita officially launches tomorrow), explore away. Of course, there's a good chance that these other games will officially appear in the PS Store sooner or later. According to message boards, many more games are transferable, but the only officially supported games are those that show up in the PS Store, and are listed in the official Sony blog post above. So far, I've done this to transfer two of my favorite games: Echochrome and Flow. Select them, copy the files, and you'll have your PSP games on your Vita. At this point, any PSP games that can be transferred show up in a list. Select the "Connect to a PS3 System" option, and select "Copy from PS3 to Vita." You can browse all PSP-related save content. The PS3 will store PSP games and allow a PSP-or, a Vita-to sync the content.Ĭonnect your PS Vita to the PS3 via USB cable (half of the AC charging kit that came with the system) and launch the Content Manager app. Instead, browse your download list via Transaction Management on your PSN account on the PlayStation 3, and download any PSP games.
So, here's the trick, which has been discussed on many message boards: while you can browse the PS Store to see what older downloadable PSP content is available for purchase or redownload, you're not getting the full picture of the whole PSP catalog. They may not be listed on Sony's backward-compatibility list, but they certainly work. Sony says the list of backward-compatible games will continue to grow, but why wait? There are actually plenty of other PSP games you can play on your PS Vita right now, but you'll need a PS3 to make it happen. Sure, there are plenty of great older games (and lots of great brand-new ones, too), but there are many missing titles. Alas, at this point, the list of PSP games you can download onto your PS Vita is limited. The PS Vita is a pretty phenomenal piece of hardware that's technically capable of being backward-compatible with the entire PSP library.
license.psvimg (4KB, presumably license info for expirations and such).
PS Vita can back up PSP games to PC in a unique format, would be cool to be able to load those games in PPSSPP.ĭirectory structure of NPUG80135 (echochrome): I did attempt simply changing the primary game file's extension to see if it was that simple, but it failed just as much as you'd expect it to. I've listed the folder contents of the game I tested below, in case it provides insight, and I can provide the files for analysis if it's useful. This produces the expected NPUG/SCUS/ULUS/etc folder name for each game, but beyond that nothing is usable. I do have a PS3, I do have a Vita, I have 71 PSP games on my PSN account at the moment, and the only way I can currently get them onto my PC is by downloading them to the Vita and using the content manager's copy to PC option. Over time I've owned three PSPs, each died horribly through no fault of its own.
I know little to nothing about the matter from a technical standpoint. I realize this may be impossible, or at least unreasonably difficult.
If somehow I've missed a major shift in the realm of possibility, I'm still all ears, but for now it seems I'll have to shell out for a working PSP if I want to be able to play my games comfortably.įirst off, let me clarify that this is specifically for PSP games, it has nothing to do with the Vita other than storage format. This video shows you how to compress PSP iSO files and into smaller file sizes which would allow you to hold alot more games on your PSP or PPSSPP memory so.
EDIT: Looked into it a bit, finally found some info, seems it's encrypted and this won't be feasible in the slightest.
